Book Review – In Blossom

In Blossom by Cheon Yooju

This is a very simple picture book, but very charming nonetheless.

Cat finds the perfect spot to eat her lunch under a cherry tree in full blossom, who is shortly joined by dog who wants to read his book.

In truth there is not much of a story but that is not the point of this book. It serves to reflect an aspect of Asian culture and their appreciation for the simple beautiful things in nature. Indeed the blossoming cherry tree’s are an annual festival to celebrate their short lived wonder.

The illustrations have an Asian art minimalism to them and are very beautifully in their execution. The reader has no choice but to focus on the tree and the relationship between it, the cat and the dog.

Easy to read, follow and enjoy!
