Otto Blotter, Bird Spotter by Graham Carter.
The story follows an adventurous boy who lives in a tree along with the rest of his family. Whilst his family stay in the tree spotting birds, Otto goes out and discovers something unusual.
There is something about stories that focus on nature that is a joy to read. The themes and messages of the story are simple enough for children to understand, whilst the fantastical setting and characters feed the imagination.
The illustrations are a rather unique style and very accomplished. The textures and colours create real depth and add to the story enormously.
On top of all that, the best bit is that it encourages children to go out and spot some birds. When I was a kid I used to spot birds, them go home and draw them. This makes it the perfect book for young spotters and artists alike!
