Book review – The Fairytale Hairdresser and Thumbelina

The Fairytale Hairdresser and Thumbelina by Abie Longstaff and Lauren Beard.

I’ll make a confession right now. We have all of the books in this series. My youngest daughter loves them. The construct of a hairdresser who gets woven into traditional fairy tales is a quite bizarre at first, but after a while it all seems perfectly normal!

Thumbelina is the latest entry to the series and follows the same winning formula as the other books. The illustration have a fitting cartoon quality and are often very detailed. There’s real fun had with the characters and it’s enjoyable spotting the various cameo appearances.

With so many other picture books on offer (some of which are aimed more at the parents) it’s rather nice that traditional fairy tales are still popular with children. Good verses evil is easy to understand and in these tales it’s always a happy ever after ending.

If you don’t already have a shelf full of them, check them out!
