The Bear and the Piano by David Litchfield.
This has been out a few years now so some of you may know it. It has become a bestseller, an award winner and a classic. It’s also spawned a sequel which I hope to review soon.
‘Heartwarming’, ‘delightful’ and ‘stunning’ are all words used to describe this book and quite rightly too. It tugs at the heartstrings whilst bowling you over with absolutely gorgeous and atmospheric illustrations. The whole thing is very accomplished.
To start the story off, it involves a bear who comes across an old piano in the forrest. After teaching himself to play, he becomes a world famous concert pianist, but could it be that he is missing his friends and his home?
This is a joy for any parent and any budding piano players!
